Service Description

Every great author starts with a single idea. In this creative Writer's Workshop, students will discover how words can entertain, persuade, inspire, and inform through fun, hands-on writing adventures. From imaginative stories and poetry to comic strips, scripts, journals, letters, speeches, advertisements, and even modern text conversations, students will experiment with many different styles of writing while developing their own unique voice. Creative prompts, games, challenges, and collaborative activities make this a class where reluctant writers gain confidence and enthusiastic writers discover new ways to grow. Along the way, students will strengthen essential English Language Arts skills by learning how to organize ideas, write clear and engaging paragraphs, use descriptive language, expand vocabulary, apply grammar and punctuation, revise and edit their work, and write for different audiences and purposes. Students will explore everything from writing compelling advertisements and persuasive arguments to crafting heartfelt letters, vivid stories, and expressive poetry while discovering that great writing comes in many forms. Students enrolled in both the fall and spring semesters will have one selected piece of writing published in a collaborative class book—a special keepsake celebrating a year of creativity and growth. This class promotes ELA State Standards which include comprehension collaboration, integration of knowledge ideas, and vocabulary acquisition use. This class is designed to change every semester so that students can take this course for 4 years without the literature repeating.
